About the Naturalization Test

The Canadian naturalization test is the official knowledge exam required as part of the Canadian citizenship application process. Formally known as the citizenship knowledge test, it assesses your understanding of Canada — its history, government, geography, rights, and responsibilities.

The test consists of 20 multiple-choice questions. You have 45 minutes to complete it and need at least 15 correct answers (75%) to pass. All questions are drawn from the official study guide, "Discover Canada: The Rights and Responsibilities of Citizenship."

The test is administered either online (from home via a secure link) or at an IRCC office. Most tests since 2020 have been conducted online. After the test, IRCC evaluates your results and invites you to a citizenship ceremony if you pass.
